# What’s New in Users & Permissions 3.0

This page summarises what changes for you in Users & Permissions 3.0. The complete list of all changes is in the [release notes](release-notes.md).

## One installation for several use cases

A space used to hold two fundamentally different things at once: the locating infrastructure — locations, devices, scenarios — and the business data of an application. Anyone who had fitted a hall with anchors and wanted to use it for two use cases, say returnable-packaging tracking and tool management, had to build the infrastructure twice.

Every space now has a **type**, and an application space references the space that holds its infrastructure. One installation therefore serves any number of use cases that stay separate from one another: each has its own assets, tracks and rules, while all of them see the same location tree and the same devices.

Two points force a decision at creation time: **the type and the infrastructure space cannot be changed afterwards**. Existing spaces continue as **General**, and nothing changes for them. See [Spaces](spaces.md#space-type).
